There is also an argument that income inequality matters less than absolute living standards improving across the board, provided it doesn’t undermine confidence in the economic system. In other words, no person has an inherent duty by birth to submit to another, nor does anyone enjoy an inherent right by birth to dominate another. What explains the stagnation in inter-ethnic income ratios between 1987-1997? I’m sure in Sweden people blog explaining how inequality is actually higher than it seems, and those who thing it’s lower than measured just don’t bother writing.

Without the government’s creation of the too big to fail banks (they’ve gotten much bigger under Obama ), the Fed’s intervention in interest rates and the markets ( most of the quantitative easing has occurred under Obama), and government-created moral hazard emboldening casino-style speculation (there’s now more moral hazard than ever before ) … things wouldn’t have gotten nearly as bad. Giving them better incentives isn’t going to make them profitable; giving them customers is.
